The Netflix live action series of Avatar: The Last Airbender has released its first trailer. Starring Daniel Dae Kim as Ozai, the ruler of the Fire Nation, the eight-episode series will premiere February 22.
Based on the hit animated series of the same name, Avatar takes place in a world governed by four separate elemental factions, who have harnessed the power of either Water, Earth, Fire, or Air. The series primarily follows the young Avatar (a master of all four elements) who has the power to bring peace to the realm, restoring the balance that had been upended by the Fire Nation.
When the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, it seemed that the Firebenders would conquer the world, with no incarnation of the Avatar to stop them. When the last Air Nomad, Aang (Gordon Cormier), reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar, he and his newfound friends from the Southern Water Tribe, Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawen-tiio), embark on an action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome Fire Lord Ozai (Kim) and Crown Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu).
Albert Kim is the showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Jabbar Raisani and Michael Goi are executive producers and directors, alongside directors Roseanne Liang (also a co-executive producer) and Jet Wilkinson. Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore serve as executive producers from Rideback.
