Ben Platt may be taking a break from Broadway (to work on his own music and star in the an upcoming Netflix series), but he took to Twitter to sing from a musical favorite, Waitress.
The Dear Evan Hansen Tony winner is apparently unhappy he is not able to see his friend Nicolette Robinson perform the role of Jenna in Waitress on Broadway. (She plays the leading role through October 28.) So, the singer posted a video of himself singing her 11 o’clock number, “She Used to Be Mine.”
Stuck in LA and so gutted that I can’t see the spectacular @NicoletteKloe during her run in @sarabareilles’s @waitressmusical so decided to sing out my frustration ❤️ pic.twitter.com/injE5S4Q1T

He’s not the first male singer to put his stamp on the tune, written by Tony-nominated composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles. Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, upcoming American Son) put his spin on the ballad at MCC’s Miscast gala earlier this year.
Platt signed a record deal back in 2017 with Atlantic Records and is currently filming Netflix’s upcoming series The Politician, which also stars his Dear Evan Hansen co-star Laura Dreyfuss as well as Gwyneth Paltrow and Barbra Streisand. He will be seen in the upcoming film Love & Oatmeal as well as Run This Town. Last year, he was a guest on Season 1 of the Will & Grace reboot. Platt first broke onto the scene in Pitch Perfect as Benji, the magic trick-performing nerd with a riff of gold.
