Lincoln Center Theater celebrates the Broadway opening of Junk, a new play by Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar (Disgraced), November 2. Inspired by the real junk bond kings of the day, the story is set in the high-flying, risk-seeking financial world of the 1980s.

Junk, directed by Doug Hughes, began performances October 5 in The Vivian Beaumont Theater.

Steven Pasquale plays Robert Merkin, an investment banker who has just landed the cover of Time Magazine in 1985. Hailed for his philosophy that “debt is an asset,“ Merkin is attempting to re-shape the market, the rules, and the world through a new perspective and an attempt to take over an iconic American company.

“What Merkin sets in motion is nothing less than a financial civil war, pitting magnates against workers, lawyers against journalists, and ultimately, pitting every one against themselves,“ read production notes from LCT.

The cast also features Ito Aghayere, Phillip James Brannon, Tony Carlin, Demosthenes Chrysan, Jenelle Chu, Caroline Hewitt, Rick Holmes, Ted Koch, Ian Lassiter, Teresa Avia Lim, Adam Ludwig, Sean McIntyre, Nate Miller, Ethan Phillips, Matthew Rauch, Matthew Saldivar, Charlie Semine, Michael Siberry, Miriam Silverman, Joey Slotnick, Henry Stram, and Stephanie Umoh.

Junk has sets by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Ben Stanton, original music and sound by Mark Bennett, and projections by 59 Productions.
