Fiddler on the Roof at the Signature

Performances are underway for the Signature Theatre's production of the classic American musical Fiddler on the Roof. Directed by Joe Calarco with choreography by Sarah Parker and music direction by Jon Kalbfleisch, the limited engagement continues through January 25, 2026, in Signature’s MAX Theatre in Arlington, Virginia.

Douglas Sills, star of HBO’s The Gilded Age and Broadway’s The Scarlet Pimpernel, plays Tevye in the production. Watch the actor, joined by the Signature company, in highlights from the Tony-winning musical in the video below.

Joining Sills are Amie Bermowitz as Golde, Christopher Bloch as Rabbi, Lily Burka as Hodel, Sarah Corey as Shaindel/Fruma-Sarah, Joseph Fierberg as Mordcha, Mia Goodman as Shprintze, Jake Loewenthal as Motel, Allison Mintz as Bielke, Stephen Russell Murray as Mendel, Rosie Jo Neddy as Chava, Ariel Neydavoud as Perchik, Beatrice Owens as Tzeitel, Reagan Pender as Avram, Jeremy Radin as Lazar Wolf, Susan Rome as Yente/Grandma Tzeitel, Alex Stone as Fyedka, Hank von Kolnitz as Sasha, and Davis Wood as Constable. Audrey Baker, John Gurdían, Stephen C. Kallas, and Kayla Marks are understudies.

Based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof has a book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The classic musical tells the story of Tevye the milkman, who clings to the Jewish customs of Anatevka, his hometown in pre-Revolutionary Russia. As his daughters question these traditions and the world changes around them, Tevye is challenged to find a new way to learn and to love.

The original 1964 Broadway production, which played seven previews and 3,242 regular performances, won nine Tony Awards, including those for Best Musical and star Zero Mostel.

“I consider Fiddler on the Roof to be a perfect musical, and one that I have wanted to direct for years,” said director Calarco in an earlier statement. “At its heart, Fiddler on the Roof is about family, faith, and tradition. It explores how communities react to change, how younger generations can alter, and sometimes break, the hearts of their parents, and how the Jewish people will always find joy and resilience even in moments of tremendous suffering. I am excited to return to Signature to share this meaningful story featuring a superb company of artists led by Douglas Sills, and to reimagine the village of Anatevka in a unique intimate staging in the round."

The production also has scenic design by Misha Kachman, costume design by Ivania Stack, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, sound design by Eric Norris, wig design by Anne Nesmith, fight choreography by Casey Kaleba, dramaturgy by Jen Jacobs and Dani Stoller, casting by Charlotte Sandor, and New York casting by Geoff Josselson Casting.

Kerry Epstein is the production stage manager, and Jackson Norman and Rebecca Talisman are the assistant stage managers.
