The U.S. premiere of the new musical Islander will begin previews April 14 at Off-Broadway's Playhouse 46 at St. Luke's, becoming the first production to play the newly renovated venue. Opening night is set for April 21.
Transferring to the U.S. following a 2019 Best New Musical–winning debut at Edinburgh Fringe, the production will star the work's complete original cast, Olivier Award nominee Kirsty Findlay and Bethany Tennick.
The musical follows a girl staring out at sea as she dreams of a life beyond the shores of her island when a mysterious stranger washes up on the shore with the tide. The Scottish folk-inspired score features looping technology for a sound mix created live during the performance.
Conceived and directed by Amy Draper, Islander features a book by Stewart Melton, music and lyrics by Finn Anderson, lighting design by Simon Wilkinson, costume design by Hahnji Jang, and sound design by Twi McCallum. Molly Morris, Helen Milne, Martin Platt for Bunce and Spider LLC, and James Simon serve as producers.
Playhouse 46 at St. Luke's is the freshly renovated iteration of St. Luke's Theatre. St. Luke's Theatre was operated by Edmund Gaynes and West End Artists Company from 2006 until 2020, when the agreement ended due to the pandemic.
Tickets for Islander will be available beginning March 2 at 10 AM ET.
