The U.K. premiere production of Rob Rokicki and Joe Tracz's The Lightning Thief musical has set a final performance for June 15. The show had been scheduled to continue through August 31. The musical will embark on a U.K. tour beginning in August as previously announced, with dates set through 2026.
The current cast features Morgan Gregory in title role alongside Lizzy-Rose Esin-Kelly (Frozen) as Annabeth, Angus Benstead (Blippi) as Grover, Jazz Evans (Spamalot) as Mr. Brunner/Poseidon/Hades, Joshua Lay (A Chorus Line) as Mr. D, Kenedy Small (SIX) as Clarisse, Xander Pang (Dear Evan Hanson) as Luke/Ares, and Paisley Billings as Sally Jackson and Medusa. The ensemble features Philip Catchpole, Owen Lloyd (Girl from the North Country), Rachel Moran (Just For One Day), and Alex Waxman.
Directed and choreographed by Lizzi Gee, the production began previews November 22, 2024, and officially opened November 28. The musical has a book by Tracz and songs by Rokicki. Bill Kenwright Ltd and Paul Taylor-Mills present the London bow.
The rock musical follows teenager Percy Jackson, who discovers he's the half-blood son of Greek god Poseidon. The musical was originally developed by TheatreWorks USA as an hour-long musical for young audiences, with the full-length version debuting Off-Broadway in 2017. Following a U.S. tour, the musical got a brief Broadway run in 2019. This staging is not a remount of the U.S. productions.
