On the Rialto Tony Walton's Professional and Personal Effects Are Going Up for Auction

For more than 60 years, Tony winner Tony Walton designed costumes and sets for Broadway classics including Chicago, Annie Get Your Gun, and Guys and Dolls.

New Jersey's Willow Auction House will host Behind the Curtain: The Tony Walton Collection, a three-day single-owner auction of Tony Walton's estate, November 4-6 in Lincoln Park, New Jersey.

For more than 60 years, the late Tony, Oscar, and Emmy winner designed costumes and sets for Broadway classics including Chicago, Annie Get Your Gun, and Guys and Dolls. Each day of the three-day auction will focus on items from different periods of his career.

  • November 4: Early works from the Slade School, caricatures and illustrations for Playbill, set designs for Carousel, Conversation Piece, Pippin, Chicago, and original film sketchbooks and posters for All That Jazz and The Wiz. Materials from the 1950s through 1980. Day One catalog.
  • November 5: Costume and set designs for Sophisticated Ladies, Woman of the Year, Little Me, The Real Thing, Annie Get Your Gun, Guys and Dolls, and more. Materials from 1981 through 2018. Day Two catalog.
  • November 6: Items from Walton’s personal collection including Playbills, posters, books (including his collaborations with Julie Andrews), toys, and decorative items. Day Three catalog.

Bidders can participate in person, online, by telephone, or via live stream. Previews will take place October 31, November 1, and November 3, with additional times available by appointment.

This auction will feature more than 700 lots from Walton’s prolific career, which can be previewed in the catalog links above. A portion of the proceeds from all three auctions will benefit The Entertainment Community Fund.
