The world premiere of Hand to God Tony nominee Robert Askins' The Squirrels kicks off June 5 at La Jolla Playhouse. The new play, directed by Tony winner Christopher Ashley, will run through July 8.
The company features Tony nominee Brad Oscar (Something Rotten!), Terence Archie (Rocky), Candy Buckley (Scandalous), Lakisha May (Everybody), and Marcus Terrell Smith (The Book of Mormon), as well as local actor Summer Spiro and UC San Diego MFA students Sidney Hill, Max Singer, and Danielle Wineman.
The comedy follows a group of squirrels as winter approaches. As tension builds between the rich Gray Squirrels and the outcast Fox Squirrels, an outsider infiltrates the group, launching their animal kingdom socio-political issues to soap opera heights.
The production features sets by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Paloma Young, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, sound design by Cricket S. Meyers, and projection design by John Narun.
