Tom Viola, who will step down as executive director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS after 36 years with the organization, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award October 21 at Tectonic Theater Project's annual benefit, A Tectonic Cabaret.
Directed by Timothy Koch, under the artistic supervision of Moisés Kaufman, and with musical direction by Anna Ebbesen, the evening at Current (Pier 59 Chelsea Piers) begins with a 6:30 PM cocktail hour and performances at 7:30 PM.
Viola, recognized for his contributions to the performing
arts community, is being honored alongside theatre and film producer Gigi Pritzker (James C. Hormel
Spirit of Tectonic Award) and two-time Tony nominee Colman Domingo (Jane
Fonda Award).
The honorees will be celebrated with performances from countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, Claybourne Elder (Company), Alyssa Fox (Frozen), spoken word artist Prentice Powell, Ryan VanDenBoom (MJ: The Musical), Sasha Velour (Velour: A Drag Spectacular), and Françise Voranger and the Hybrid Movement Company.

remarkable career of service is astounding, saving and bettering
countless lives with his tireless dedication. His war on HIV and AIDS
and its ravages is the stuff of legend,” said Founding Artistic Director
Kaufman in an earlier statement. “Tom’s kindness, compassion, and generosity
make him one of our most beloved living heroes. I am overjoyed to
celebrate this remarkable individual and his incredible achievements at
this year’s gala.”
Proceeds from the cabaret benefit Tectonic Theater Project’s development of new works and education through the Moment Work Institute.
