A slate of original Korean musicals will perform excerpts in a special performance at NYC's Open Jar Studios, complete with all-star casts and creative teams. Set for November 18, the event will feature 40-minute adaptations of each show performed in English, followed by a networking reception with Korean producers and creative teams.
The three musicals being presented include Chan Hong Min and Min Hyeong Cho's Let Me Fly, Chanhong Min and Heekyung Yun's Rimbaud, and YoonJi Cho and Seungmin Kim's Dalí, Gala Exhibition.
The New York City teams for the three shows include performers Taylor Trensch (Batboy, Floyd Collins), Marcus Choi (Maybe Happy Ending), Alyssa Fox (Wicked), John El-Jor (We Live in Cairo), and A.J. Shively (Bright Star); directors Telly Leung (Aladdin, Allegiance), Zi Alikhan (On That Day in Amsterdam), and Lauren Zeftel; and music directors Laura Bergquist (Allegiance), PJ Ju (Real Women Have Curves), and Pete White (Kinky Boots).
Directed by Leung, Let Me Fly features music by Chan Hong Min, a book and lyrics by Cho, English translation and lyrics by Michael K. Lee, music direction by Bergquist, and is produced by Let Me Fly LTD. The New York City cast will include Choi, Christine Heesun Hwang, Daniel May, and Hazel Anne Raymundo.
Directed by Alikhan, Rimbaud features a book and lyrics by Yun, music by Min, music direction by Ju, English translation by Hansol Oh and Yunhye Park, English lyrics adaptation by Trevor K. Band, and is produced by Double K Entertainment Co. & Live Corp. The New York City cast will include Shively, Trensch, and Charles Joseph Webb.
Written and directed by Cho, Dalí, Gala Exhibition features music by Kim, music direction by White, and associate direction from Zeftel, and is produced by Jakjak Company. The New York City cast will include Kelsey Angel Baehrens, Blair Baker, Travis Keith Battle, Mara Cecilia, John El-Jor, Fox, and Nick Martinez.
