After a successful inaugural concert last year, tickets are now on sale for the second annual Voices for the Voiceless: Stars for Foster Kids concert. The evening of song is scheduled for September 12 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Presented by Beachbody.com, Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley, the event unites Broadway and Hollywood stars in a one-night-only event to raise funds and awareness for children in foster care, “particularly those age 13-21 whom many consider ‘unadoptable’ because of their age,” according to press notes. Proceeds from the evening will go to You Gotta Believe, New York’s sole non-profit focused on finding families for foster kids 13 and older.
This year’s concert promises to feature the talents of Rosie Perez, Gloria Gaynor, Megan Hilty, Chita Rivera, Sherri Saum, Rachel Crow, Marc Shaiman, Janice Huff, Caroline Rhea, Alec Mapa, Alice Ripley, BD Wong, Charles Busch, Liz Callaway, Ann Hampton Callaway, Orfeh, Adrienne Warren, Anika Larsen, Keala Settle, Richard Kind, Tony Yazbeck, Roz Ryan, Michelle Collins, Lisa Mordente, Liz Larsen, Josh Colley, Lilla Crawford, Christine Pedi, Janet Metz, Olga Merediz and Carole Demas. Rudetsky will, again, be music director.
“Our inaugural event last year was welcomed with such excitement and support that we couldn’t wait to partner with You Gotta Believe again this year. All of these amazing stars are completely donating their time and talents to support these kids. It’s going to be an inspiring night full of love and hope!” Wesley said.
There are approximately 1,300 children currently awaiting adoption in New York City alone. Each year, about 25,000 children age out of foster care in America. This event marks an effort to change this.
