Monday, January 20
GO (FREE)→ The Brooklyn Academy of Music throws its annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. featuring myriad performers, authors, activists and speakers. GO→ Tony-winning icon Carol Channing will join Tony-nominated Kiki & Herb star Justin Vivian Bond for a chat at Town Hall. Channing, the original Dolly in the legendary Jerry Herman musical Hello, Dolly!, will talk about her vast history with that musical's 50 years, as well as her own milestone — turning 93 next week! PREVIEWS→ Acclaimed writer and actor Charles Busch is back at it with a new play that finds him amongst familiar company. The Tribute Artist reunites Busch with frequent collaborators, actress Julie Halston and director Carl Andress, for the new comedy about an out-of-work female impersonator who assumes a new identity. GO→ Two-time Tony-winning stunner Sutton Foster returns to the Café Carlyle for another evening of song. Preceding her Broadway return in Violet (opening later this season), Foster takes to the intimate Carlyle stage in a return engagement of her beautiful exploration of heartbreak and love with music director Michael Rafter. OPENING→ Debra Messing and Tony winner Brían F. O'Byrne star in John Patrick Shanley's newest play Outside Mullingar. The new rom-com features Messing and O'Byrne as two oddballs fighting for love and a piece of land in rural Ireland. Shanley reunites here with his Tony-winning Doubt director, Doug Hughes.
