The Producers has beat the record held by Hello, Dolly for most Tony Award wins in one year with 12 victories. Dolly won ten Tonys some 37 years ago.
The smash show has won for: Best Musical, Nathan Lane for leading actor in a musical, Susan Stroman for choreography and direction, Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan for book of a musical, Brooks for score, Gary Beach for featured actor in a musical, Cady Huffman for featured actress in a musical, Doug Besterman for orchestrations, Robin Wagner for scenic design, Peter Kaczorowski for lighting design and William Ivey Long for costume design.
