The last big Broadway red carpet of the year has come with all the glitz and glamour it calls for, as stars from all across the universe of theatre, film, and television showed up to see Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' play, Appropriate, starring Sarah Paulson.
The evening offered a mix of classic, chic looks with cashmere coats and silk dresses, and modern, edgy ensembles with angular necklines and metallic accents. Read our in-depth coverage of the opening night here and see highlights from the Appropriate red carpet below.
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins
Appropriate playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins looks appropriately dressed for both the cold weather and the fabulous fashion that a Broadway debut calls for. He wore a teal, bronze, and green-toned brocade jacket, paired perfectly with the forest green vest underneath. The patent leather slip-on boots balance the vintage style of the coat perfectly with a glossy, fresh finish.
Montego Glover
Attendee Montego Glover looked extraordinary in this edgy, trendy all-black ensemble. The gold-buttoned Cinq à Sept blazer (with the striped inner lining exposed on the sleeves), semi-sheer Aritzia tank, and JBrand leather jeans created an elongated line of rockstar-style coolness, extending seamlessly into the heeled peep-toe Prada boots. The quilted Chanel bag added a touch of classic elegance, with chain hardware on the straps tying into the outfit's cool energy.
Rebecca Hall
Attendee Rebecca Hall looked snow amazing in this powdery-white shirt dress piece from Roland Mouret. The loose fit and gently flared skirt let the puffy feather sleeves stand out, and the little peek of her silver pointed heels perfect this wintery look.
Jennifer Lawrence
Attendee (and Oscar winner) Jennifer Lawrence's silky long, black dress is classy but understated, leaving plenty of room for her cold-weather appropriate and gorgeous maroon cashmere coat by The Row to shine. That coat comes with a nearly $10k price tag, but thankfully, someone found a dupe. Her slicked-back hairstyle shows off her flawlessly glowy makeup look, and classic gold hoop earrings.
Kayli Carter
Styled by Emily Sanchez, attendee Kayli Carter's ivory Markarian dress was absolutely stunning. The metallic brocade is both elegant and modern, and the triangular v-neck adds a bit of modern structure below the regal puff sleeves. The ankle-length cut lets her gold heels bring out the tones of the dress, as well as her rhinestone gold clutch.
Mia Sinclair Jenness
Attendee Mia Sinclair Jenness epitomized chicness in her black-and-white Philosophy ensemble. The tiny black bows and satin white collared undershirt adds some whimsical detailing to the black silk minidress. The fishnet tights add just enough of a rebellious touch.
Elle Fanning
Cast member Elle Fanning never disappoints as the reigning princess of red carpet fashion. While some of her most notorious looks are very princess-like and ethereal, Fanning looked marvelously mature in this calf-length black dress from The Row, which featured a more angular take on a sweetheart neckline. Her slicked-back bun and silver tassel necklace leave room for her tattoos to stand out. And every black dress needs a red lip!
Sarah Paulson
If you've been scrolling and wondering where Appropriate star Sarah Paulson was on the list—we, of course, saved the best for last. Paulson looks formidable in her ultramodern angular look by Alexandre Vauthier, from the sharp shoulders to the triangle cut at the bottom of her overcoat. The actor's gold collar with the icy jeweled accent is gorgeous enough on its own, but looks cohesive when paired with a gold chain belt. The ensemble makes clear that just like her character Toni in the play, Paulson is a force to be reckoned with.
And Paulson's outfit complemented her partner's, esteemed actor Holland Taylor.
That's it on a year of red carpet fashion. And stay tuned for our end-of-the-year roundup to see what looks we couldn't stop thinking about throughout all the seasons!
