The news was announced Nov. 12 by Teachers College president Susan Fuhrman at the College's 125th anniversary gala at the Apollo Theater.

Named in memory of Streisand's late father, Emanuel Streisand, the fund will support students pursuing masters and doctoral degrees.

Emanuel Streisand was a New York City elementary, junior high and high school English teacher. He also taught at the Brooklyn High School for Specialty Trades and served as assistant organizer, assistant superintendent and acting superintendent of Schools of the Department of Education during his time at the Elmira Reformatory for juveniles. He was pursuing a Ph.D. in Guidance and Personnel at Teachers College when he died.

Streisand is an award-winning actress, recording artist, concert performer, film director, producer, screenwriter, songwriter, philanthropist, designer, photographer, author and activist. The recipient of two Oscars, five Emmys, 10 Grammys, a Tony and 12 Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award, is the only artist ever to receive an Oscar, Tony, Emmy, Grammy, Directors Guild of America, Golden Globe, National Medal of Arts and Peabody Awards as well as France's Legion d'Honneur and the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award. She is also the first female film director to receive the Kennedy Center Honors. The three films she directed received 14 Oscar nominations.
