With the news that two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone will reprise her performance of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, now is a perfect time to revisit her definitive rendition of the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice anthem at the 23rd annual ceremony in 1981.
Watch LuPone's teary-eyed performance of the Evita showstopper in the video above.
LuPone won her first Tony Award the year before for her performance as Eva Peron. She would go on to win again in 2008 for her portrayal of Madame Rose in the most recent Broadway production of Gypsy. In London, she originated the role of Fantine in Les Misérables, first with the Royal Shakespeare Company, followed by a run in the West End. LuPone won an Olivier Award for her performance, as well as for her performance the same season in the Acting Company’s production of The Cradle Will Rock.
The Broadway favorite was most recently seen opposite Christine Ebersole in the new musical War Paint; both actors received Tony nominations for their performances.
