A new documentary film Merely Marvelous: The Dancing Genius of Gwen Verdon will profile the life and legacy of the legendary multiple Tony-winning Broadway dancer known for her roles in Sweet Charity, Damn Yankees, and Chicago.
Ken Bloom, Dennis Fill, and Chris Johnson share writing and directing credits on the documentary that features footage from Verdon’s career on stage and screen, as well as interviews with a host of theatre stars and industry members, including Chita Rivera, Charlotte d’Amboise, Harvey Evans, and Verdon's son, Jim Henaghan.
The documentary is currently seeking additional funding.
According to the creators, "With our documentary Merely Marvelous: The Dancing Genius of Gwen Verdon, we are seeking to preserve the legacy of Broadway's greatest dancing talent; a woman who also excelled as an actor, performer, and singer. Through rare footage of every one of Gwen's Broadway appearances, from Can-Can to Chicago, and interviews with her friends, family, and Broadway family, Merely Marvelous is a salute to a great performer and great person. We hope this documentary will keep the memory and talents of Gwen Verdon alive for future generations."
