News Sweeney Todd Star to Enter the "Broadway Spotlight" May 8 Donna Lynne Champlin, who plays Pirelli — as well as the accordion, keyboard and flute — in the acclaimed revival of Sweeney Todd, will step into the "Broadway Spotlight" May 8 at the Ars Nova.

Champlin is the latest performer to be featured in the series, which presents new Broadway actors in an intimate setting. Champlin's 8 PM concert will include a mix of songs and stories: Concertgoers can expect to hear Broadway tunes, Irish classics and gospel favorites. The actress, according to press notes, is also "bringing along tales of her most embarrassing moments, and the audience gets to choose which ones they want to hear." Andrew Gerle will be the musical director.

Previous "Broadway Spotlight" concerts have showcased the talents of Spelling Bee's Lisa Howard, Sweeney Todd's Manoel Felciano, Avenue Q's Ann Harada, Barrett Foa and John Tartaglia, Dance of the Vampires' Max von Essen, Les Miz’s Lauren Kennedy, Hairspray's Shoshana Bean, Into the Woods' Chad Kimball, Aida's Felicia Finley, Rent's Anthony Rapp, Wicked's Idina Menzel and Funny Girl’s Leslie Kritzer.

Donna Lynne Champlin has appeared on Broadway in Sweeney Todd, Hollywood Arms, By Jeeves and James Joyce's The Dead. Her other New York theatrical credits include My Life With Albertine, Reunion, Encores!, Bloomer Girl, First Lady Suite, The Audience and Meet John Doe.
