Casting has been revealed for Alliance Theatre's upcoming world premiere of Millions, a new musical with a book by Bob Martin (BOOP! The Musical) and music and lyrics by Adam Guettel (The Light in the Piazza). Adapted from the 2004 film and novel by Frank Cottrell-Boyce, the musical will play the Atlanta company's Coca-Cola Stage May 9–June 15, with an official opening May 22. As previously announced, Tony winner Bartlett Sher is directing.
The cast will be led by Keenan Barrett as Damian, Tony winner Shuler Hensley (The Music Man) as The Thief, Yair Keydar (DRAG: The Musical) as Anthony, Leigh Ellen Jones as Maureen, Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles (Sweeney Todd) as Dorothy, and Steven Pasquale (Teeth) as Ron.
The cast will also include Jackson Arthur as Andrew, Jonah Harmon as Mr. Roth, Cameron McCrae as Philip, Adrienne Ocfemia as Madison, Brad Raymond as St. Peter, Robert Stanton as Mr. Miller/St. Francis, Carla R. Stewart as St. Clare/Guidance Counselor, and Billy Harrigan Tighe as Carl, plus an ensemble comprising Morgan Crumbly, Claire Davy, Kate Fahrner, Ann Sanders, Wyatt Wilkerson, and Gabriel Zenone. Swings Hunter Brown and Noelle McIntyre will round out the company.
Millions follows two brothers who, while dealing with the loss of their mother, discover a duffel bag filled with cash. The project, produced by arrangement with Franco Productions/Jeffrey Richards Associates and Sonia Friedman Productions, reunites Guettel with The Light in the Piazza director Sher.
The production will also feature choreography by Dell Howlett, music direction by Kimberly Grigsby, scenic design by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Don Holder, sound design by Justin Ellington, projection design by Ben Pearcy and Brad Peterson, and fight choreography by Jake Guinn.
“At its heart, Millions is about possibility—what we do with the unexpected, how can we choose generosity over greed, and how love finds us when we least expect it,” says Alliance Co-Artistic Director Tinashe Kajese-Bolden in a statement. “Millions is a story about faith—not just in the divine, but in each other, in the unknown, in the belief that when the world shifts beneath us, we can still find solid ground.”
“What struck us most about this piece was its unapologetic heart,” adds Co-Artistic Director Christopher Moses. “Anchored by the faith of a child wanting nothing more than to be good and to see his mother again, Millions invites us to turn from reckless self-interest to boundless love. To tell such a miraculous story, you need an equally miraculous cast. We're thrilled for Atlanta to experience such musical theatre royalty on our Coca-Cola Stage.”
