Manhattan Theatre Club will celebrate the Motor Cityāthe setting of the play Skeleton Crew and hometown of playwright Dominique Morisseauāwith a special Detroit Night February 4. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and NYC Mayor Eric Adams will attend the evening performance, honoring the people and culture of the city.
Other special guests at the February 4 performance will include Adrian Bailey, Courtney Burkett, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Michael Eric Dyson, Dhani Jones, Woodie King Jr., Kaāramuu Kush, S. Epatha Merkerson, Jessica Care Moore, Jeffrey Nzoma, Ebow Ivory Vroom, Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Jamon Jordan, Joel Fluent Greene, Jazzie Belle, Mama Sol, and more.
In addition to Detroit Night at the theatre, the production will host events throughout the week focusing on Morisseau and her works:
- On February 6, Black Theatre Network will present a panel discussion with Morisseau and Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, with playwright Michael Dinwiddie. "Black Theatre: Radical Longevity" will stream at 5 PM ET. Click here to register.
- Harlem School of the Arts will present "Morisseau Moment" February 7 at 6 PM ET, showcasing moments from the playwright's three New York City shows this season. Morisseau will be also honored by the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce. Click here to register.
- On February 9 at 7 PM ET, Morisseau will be on hand, along with Skeleton Crew director Ruben Santiago-Hudson and composer Jimmy Keys a.k.a J. Keys for the streaming talk "Harlem Stage and MTC's Beyond the Stage: Uptown Present: An Evening with Dominique Morisseau's Skeleton Crew." The talk will be moderated by Harlem Stage's Carl Hancock Rux
Skeleton Crew, the third of Morisseau's Detroit Cycle, tells the story of a tight-knit family of workers at a small auto factory facing foreclosure. It stars Tony winner Phylicia Rashad (Gem of the Ocean, A Rasin in the Sun), Brandon J. Dirden (Jitney), ChantƩ Adams in her Broadway debut, Joshua Boone (Network), and dancer-choreographer Adesola Osakalumi (Fela!).
