Ogunquit Playhouse's 94th season will feature four classic musicals plus the premiere of a new musical.
The 2026 season will launch May 14–June 13 with Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations. Gerry McIntyre will direct the biomusical about the famed singing group, which features a book by Dominique Morisseau and hits from the Motown catalog.
The Jerry Herman-Michael Stewart classic Hello, Dolly!, based on Thornton Wilder's play The Matchmaker, will follow, running June 18-July 18. Maggie Burrows will direct the musical comedy, which features such tunes as “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” “Before the Parade Passes By,” and the title song.
The Tony-winning City of Angels, featuring a book by Larry Gelbart, music by Cy Coleman, and lyrics by David Zippel, will play the Maine venue July 23–August 22. Hunter Foster will direct the musical that weaves between the Technicolor reality of 1940s Hollywood and the black-and-white film noir of novelist Stine.
Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan's record-breaking, Tony-winning The Producers will be presented August 27–September 26. James Gray will re-create the original direction and choreography of Tony winner Susan Stroman. Based on Brooks' 1968 cult classic, The Producers tells the story of producer Max Bialystock who realizes the road to his financial redemption lies in producing the worst musical ever written.
The world premiere musical, set to run October 1-November 1, as well as casting and creative teams for all productions will be revealed at a later time.
“After
having back-to-back record-breaking seasons the last two years, we’re
so excited to share our 2026 lineup with audiences both returning and
new,” says Ogunquit Managing Director Deborah Warren in a statement. “As one of the
original American summer theatres, we carry a proud legacy into every
new production. We hope you’ll join us in eagerly counting down the days
until May, when we get to raise the curtain once more.”
The
Playhouse will also host a gala fundraiser August 3 featuring Broadway talent to be announced. Individual tickets will go on sale in March.
