Cracked Open, a new play by Gail Kriegel, will make its world premiere beginning May 6 prior to an official opening May 20 at Off-Broadway's Theatre Row.
Also directed by the playwright, the cast will feature Pamela Bob (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder), Joyia D. Bradley (Mirrors), Rubén Caballero, Paul Castree (Water for Elephants), Blaire DiMisa (Anastasia), Scott Harrison (David: A New Musical), Madeline Grace Jones (The Color Purple), Lisa Pelikan (Spring Awakening), Katherine Reis (Gossip Girl), Bart Shatto (War Paint), and Jeene Vath (Medea of The Laundromat).
The 11-member cast will play 32 characters in the play, produced by Dream Big World Theatre in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.
In Cracked Open, a family's love is tested when their 17-year-old daughter experiences the sudden onset of mental illness. As they struggle to understand her new reality, they must navigate the complexities of treatment, social stigma, and their own fears.
The creative team also includes scenic and props designer Mikaila Baca-Dorion, costume designers AC Gottlieb and James Nguyen, scenic and lighting designer Yang Yu, sound designer and production manager Bill Toles, fight director Judi Lewis Ockler, production stage manager Suzanne Apicella, casting director Jamibeth Margolis, and general managers Reed Ridgley and Anthony Francavilla of Form Theatricals.
