London's The Old Vic will give a U.K. premiere to Tracy Letts' Mary Page Marlowe this fall, with performances running September 23-November 1. Opening night will be October 8.
Led by the previously reported Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking) and Andrea Riseborough (Matilda the Musical), both at different ages of the same title character, Letts' play paints a multi-decade portrait of Mary, depicting her at various ages over 11 scenes and 70 years.
Sarandon and Riseborough will be supported by the newly announced Alisha Weir (Matilda the Musical), Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean), and Eleanor Worthington-Cox (Next to Normal), who will also play Mary Page Marlowe at different ages.
The company will also include Daniella Arthur-Kennedy as Lorna, Eden Epstein (Leopoldstadt) as Roberta Marlowe, Clare Hughes (Ladies in Black) as Wendy Gilbert, Gilbert Kyem Jnr (Rivals) as Ben, Melanie La Barrie (Hadestown, & Juliet) as Nurse, Kingsley Morton (The Addams Family) as Connie, Hugh Quarshie (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace) as Andy, Ronan Raftery (Obituary) as Dan, Paul Thornley (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) as Ray, Lauren Ward (Matilda the Musical) as Shrink, and Noah Weatherby (Too Much) as Ed Marlowe. The role of Louis will be shared by Felix Anderson, Griffin Ashton, and Dexter Pulling. Casting is by Jim Carnahan and Sam Stevenson, with children's casting by Amy Beadel.
Matthew Warchus is directing, kicking off his final season as artistic director of the company. The production will see the London theatre configured to be completely in-the-round. The staging will feature scenic and costume design by Rob Howell, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, and sound design by Simon Baker. The production's dialect coach is Penny Dyer, the voice coach is Charlie Hughes D'Aeth, and wig, hair, and makeup supervisor is Campbell Young Associates.The associate director and associate sound designer is Emma Laxton, and the associate costume designer is Lucy Gaiger.
Letts' play made its world premiere at Chicago's Steppenwolf in 2016, coming to Off-Broadway via Second Stage Theater in 2018. The upcoming London staging is new.
