More casting has been revealed for the upcoming Broadway bow of Mark Rosenblatt's West End play Giant, set to star John Lithgow as children's book author Roald Dahl next year, as previously announced. Also new: a home for the production, which will come to the Music Box Theatre beginning March 11, 2026. Opening night will be March 23. Two-time Tony winner Nicholas Hytner is once again at the helm after staging the premiere.
Lithgow will be reprising his Olivier-winning performance from the play's West End run, and he won't be the only one. Also transferring with the play will be Elliot Levey, reprising his Olivier-winning performance as Dahl's Jewish publisher, Tom Maschler; Aya Cash (The Boys) as U.S. publisher Jessie Stone; and Rachael Stirling as Felicity Crosland. Further casting is to be announced.
The play comes on the heels of a broader cultural conversation about Dahl's work and the prejudice that was embedded in many of his stories. In 2023, hundreds of words in Dahl's books were either altered or omitted from future printings in order to remove countless negative references to race, skin color, ethnicity, gender, disabilities, and more.
The London production earned three 2025 Olivier Awards, including Best New Play alongside Lithgow and Levey's acting wins. Read what critics had to say about the U.K. run here.
Brian and Dayna Lee, Stephanie Kramer and Nicole Kramer, Josh Fiedler and Robyn Goodman, and Royal Court Theatre are producing the transfer. The production will feature design by Bob Crowley, with further design team and casting to be announced.
Tickets are available with registration at GiantThePlay.com. General sales will begin October 16 at 10 AM ET.
