The world premiere of Jesse Eisenberg’s new play Happy Talk will begin performances Off-Broadway April 30 in a production from The New Group at the Signature Center. Scott Elliott directs a cast made up of Nico Santos, Marin Ireland, Tedra Millan, Daniel Oreskes, and Susan Sarandon.
Happy Talk follows Lorraine (Sarandon), a saint of the suburbs. On top of trying to save her dying mother, miserable husband, and estranged daughter, she’s starring as Bloody Mary in the Jewish Community Center production of South Pacific. When her mother’s home aide, Serbian immigrant Ljuba (Ireland), asks for help finding a husband, Lorraine takes on her most challenging role to date: matchmaker.
The play will officially open May 16.
