Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival, the nation’s premiere short play competition, chose six winning plays on August 12 as the culmination of the festival. These five plays and one musical will be published and available for licensing by Samuel French as part of the 42nd edition of its Off Off Broadway collection.

“We’re so excited to be publishing such a varied collection, from a ten-minute musical about the perils of growing up to a drama about navigating interracial relationships,” said Abbie Van Nostrand, Director of Corporate Communications at Samuel French, in a press statement. “Lovers of short plays and musicals need look no further than the 42nd edition from this year’s OOB Festival.”
The festival was founded in 1975 as a way to foster up-and-coming playwriting talent. Since then, the festival has nurtured such notable talents as Theresa Rebeck (Seminar), Kelly Younger, and more.
Ferron-Smith is a graduate of Boston University and part of the Obie-winning playwright collective Youngblood. Goldman earned an MFA from New York University’s musical theatre writing program. Her JACK + JILL co-writer, Hammond, received a New Dramatists residency with MFAs from the University of Iowa and New York University. Keating is also a member of Youngblood and her plays have been produced by Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Flea, and more. Marlin was a finalist for the 2017 O’Neill Playwrights Conference and is currently pursuing an MFA at the Iowa Playwrights Workshop. Moss is a Playwriting fellow at Juilliard and a lyricist in the BMI Lehman Musical Theatre Workshop.
