Almeida Theatre's 2023 production of A Mirror officially opens its West End transfer at Trafalgar Theatre February 1, where it began performances January 22. The run will continue through April 20.
New to the production for the West End run is BAFTA nominee Samuel Adewunmi (You Don't Know Me) as Adem. He's joined by Jonny Lee Miller as Čelik, Tanya Reynolds as Mei, and Geoffrey Streatfeild as Bax, all reprising their performances from the 2023 staging. The company also includes Jude Akuwudike, Rob Alexander-Adams, Levi Bent, Florence Dobson, Sarah Houghton, Miriam Wakeling, and Sez Wilson.
The work, written by Sam Holcroft, takes place at a non-licensed wedding in an authoritarian state, exploring ideas of censorship, free speech, and art as resistance. Almeida's run played its final performance in September, earning an Evening Standard Award nomination for Best New Play.
Jeremy Herrin is back to direct after staging at the Almeida. The production features set and costume design by Max Jones, lighting design by Azusa Ono, music and sound design by Nick Powell, and fight direction by Jonathan Holby. Casting is by Jessica Ronane.
Second Half Productions is producing the West End bow, with co-producers Almeida Theatre, Rodeo Productions/Tilted, Winkler & Smalberg, and Trish Wadley Productions.
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
