Initial casting is set for Crossroads Live North America's new non-Equity tour of the Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots, which will launch November 19 in Elmira, New York.
Justin Woody (also known as drag star Onya Nurve) will take on the role of Lola, and Noah Silverman will play Charlie Price; additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Ohio native Woody, crowned the winner of Season 17 of RuPaul's Drag Race, has more than 20 theatrical credits and holds a BFA in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art. Silverman has been seen in the tours of The Book of Mormon, The Prom, On the Town, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
The tour will subsequently continue across North America, making stops in Boston, Hartford, Dallas, Charlotte, and more. For the current itinerary, visit KinkyBootsMusical.com.
Based on the Miramax motion picture written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, Kinky Boots features a Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein. The original Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, played 2,507 regular performances and 34 previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, from 2013 to 2019. The international hit won six 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The forthcoming tour will also have associate direction by DB Bonds, associate choreography by Rusty Mowery, music supervision by Will Van Dyke, and casting by Murnane Casting.
The creative team also includes arranger and orchestrator Stephen Oremus, scenic designer David Rockwell, costume designer Gregg Barnes, lighting designer Kenneth Posner, sound designer Gareth Owen, and hair designer Josh Marquette.
The original Broadway company of Kinky Boots was headed by Billy Porter as indefatigable drag performer Lola, whose broken heel helps mend a broken wing for a foundering shoe-maker, originally played by Stark Sands. Both Porter and Sands were Tony-nominated for their performances; Porter won the Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, and Mitchell won his second career Tony Award for his choreography.
This tour of Kinky Boots is being licensed by Music Theatre International.
