Rose, helmed by Nora's artistic director Caroline Reddick Lawson, is scheduled to play through Dec. 13 at the Clurman at Theatre Row. 

Chalfant, who received a Tony nomination for her performance in Angels in America, takes on the famous matriarch of the Kennedy political clan. Here's how production notes bill the play: "[The] one-character drama is set in 1969 at the Kennedy’s Hyannis Port compound the week after Teddy’s fateful accident at Chappaquiddick. Rose struggles with all the tragedies the Kennedys have overcome and finds new understanding of the choices she made as well as those made by her husband and children...Rose takes the audience on a fascinating and unexpected journey with someone we think we know."

Leamer's play is inspired by real-life audio recordings Rose Kennedy made for her ghostwritten autobiography. Much of the show is also informed by Leamer's own books about the famous family, including "The Kennedy Women" and "The Kennedy Men: 1901-1963."
