Casting is complete for Lincoln Center Theater's new musical Night Side Songs, which will begin previews February 14 prior to an official opening March 1 at LCT’s Claire Tow Theater.
Written by The Lazours (We Live in Cairo), who are reuniting with Lortel and Obie-winning director Taibi Magar (We Live in Cairo, Macbeth in Stride), the cast will feature three-time Tony nominee Robin de Jesús (The Boys in the Band, In the Heights) as Dr. Henry Verlaine/Lillian Jones/Uncle Jere, Brooke Ishibashi (Into the Woods) as Yasmine, Jonathan Raviv (The Band's Visit) as Frank, three-time Tony nominee Mary Testa (Oklahoma!, 42nd Street) as Desirée/Prudence of Dursley, and Kris Saint-Louis (Mexodus) as Pilgrim/Nurse/Harris Reading.
Night Side Songs—inspired by Susan Sontag’s insight that “illness is the night side of life”—is about the small human connections that make up the vast tapestry of our lives. The musical amplifies the voices of those who navigate the complexities of health—patients, caregivers, and medical professionals alike; the score was developed with Madeline Benson.
The production will also have musical direction by Alex Bechtel, set design by Matt Saunders, costume design by Jason Goodwin, lighting design by Amith Chandrashaker, sound design by Justin Stasiw, and casting by Taylor Williams and The Telsey Office. The stage manager is Elizabeth Emanuel.
Daniel Lazour and Patrick Lazour's theatrical credits also include We Live in Cairo, The Lunchbox, and A Midsummer Night's Dream (with Mark Sonnenblick). Among their film credits are Your Monster (Sundance 2024) and Challenger: An American Dream (Bruce Cohen Productions, Spark Features).
Night Side Songs originated in a world premiere co-production between American Repertory Theater at Harvard University and Philadelphia Theatre Company, following a commission by American Repertory Theater. The show was further developed and presented by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in the Under the Radar Festival.
