The legacy of the late rock pioneer Ritchie Valens is heading to the West End!
La Bamba!, a new musical based Valens, who passed away at 17 in a plane crash known colloquially as "the day the music died," will play London’s Peacock Theatre, Sadler’s Wells, from August 22 to September 2 for a limited run following its UK wide premiere tour.
Using a selection of Valens songs, as well as Latin folk music, contemporary rhythm and blues, and more, the musical tells the story of a young girl living in Pacoima, California, through dance.
The work is choreographed by Latin dance champion and Strictly Come Dancing choreographer Graziano Di Prima, with associate choreography by his wife and fellow Strictly Come Dancing alum Giada Lini. The musical is directed by Ray Roderick and features new music by Alfonso Casado-Trigo.
La Bamba! will open at the Curve in Leicester August 1, with tour dates following the West End engagement to be announced at a later date, along with casting.
