The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of the Tony-winning musical La Cage aux Folles plays the outdoor London venue through September 23, following a recently announced one-week extension. Opening night was August 8, and the reviews are rolling out.
Directed by outgoing Artistic Director Tim Sheader, the cast is led by Carl Mullaney (Chicago, Les Misérables) as Albin and Billy Carter (A Moon for the Misbegotten) as Georges with Ben Culleton as Jean-Michel, Julie Jupp as Marie Dindon, Shakeel Kimotho as Jacob, Debbie Kurup as Jacqueline, John Owen-Jones as Edward Dindon, and Sophie Pourret as Anne.
Based on the play by Jean Poiret, La Cage has a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. The musical opened on Broadway in August 1983, subsequently winning six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
