Benefits and Galas Producer Barbara Whitman Will Be Honored at Tectonic Theater Project's 2025 Tectonic Cabaret

Michael Urie is hosting the upcoming event, which will also honor Emmy winner and Tony nominee Uzo Aduba.

Tectonic Theater Project will honor Tony-winning producer Barbara Whitman with the James C. Hormel Spirit of Tectonic Award at this year's A Tectonic Cabaret benefit gala, planned for October 20 at the Edison Ballroom in NYC. Whitman will be recognized at the event alongside Emmy winner and Tony nominee Uzo Audba, who will receive The Jane Fonda Award in recognition of her deep commitment to activism and social justice, as previously announcedOh, Mary! star Michael Urie will host the evening.

Directed by Amy Marie Seidel, under the artistic supervision of Moisés Kaufman and with musical direction by Julianne Merrill, the evening will begin at 6:30 PM with performances beginning at 7:30 PM. And offering those performances will be the newly announced comedian Hannah Gadsby, 2025 Tony winner Natalie Venetia Belcon, Tony winner Beth Malone, Erin Morton, and puppeteer Dan Hurlin. The evening will also feature costumes by Dede Ayite.

“We are deeply honored to celebrate our dear friend Barbara Whitman with the James C. Hormel Spirit of Tectonic Award,” says Tectonic Founding Artistic Director Moisés Kaufman in a statement. “Barbara’s visionary producing has helped bring some of the most groundbreaking stories of our time to Broadway, and her commitment to bold, transformative theatre has inspired us all. She has been an extraordinary champion of Tectonic’s work and of artists everywhere, and we are thrilled to recognize her remarkable contributions to the field with this award.”

Proceeds from the cabaret will benefit Tectonic Theater Project’s development of new works and education through the Moment Work Institute.

Since its founding in 1991, Tectonic has created and staged over 20 plays and musicals, including Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, The Laramie Project, Doug Wright’s Pulitzer Prize-winning I Am My Own Wife, 33 Variations, Seven Deadly Sins, and its newest world-premiere play, Here There Are Blueberries, a 2024 Pulitzer Prize Finalist for Drama.
