Broadway News Prior to Broadway Opening, Come From Away Plans a Return to Toronto Producers have already announced a Toronto return engagement for the new musical that opens on Broadway March 12.

The new Broadway musical Come From Away, which explores the lives of a group of stranded travelers whose planes are diverted to Newfoundland during the events of 9/11, will return to Toronto in 2018.

The new rock musical played an out-of-town Toronto engagement in late 2016 as part of its pre-Broadway rolling premiere. It will begin a sit-down Canadian production at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre February 13, 2018.

Come From Away began Broadway previews February 18 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, where it is scheduled to open March 12.

Come From Away features a book, music and lyrics by the Canadian husband-and-wife team Irene Sankoff and David Hein (My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding). Tony Award nominee Christopher Ashley (Memphis) directs.

The cast includes Tony Award nominee Chad Kimball, as well as Petrina Bromley, Geno Carr, Jenn Colella, Joel Hatch, Rodney Hicks, Kendra Kassebaum, Lee MacDougall, Caesar Samayoa, Q. Smith, Astrid Van Wieren, Sharon Wheatley, Josh Breckenridge, Susan Dunstan, Tamika Lawrence, and Tony LePage.

Here's how it's billed: “In a heartbeat, 38 planes and 6,579 passengers were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, doubling the population of one small town on the edge of the world. On September 11, 2001 the world stopped. On September 12, their stories moved us all.”

The creative team includes Ian Eisendrath, music director; Kelly Devine, choreographer; Beowulf Boritt, scenic design; Toni-Leslie James, costume design; Howell Binkley, lighting design; and Gareth Owen, sound design. Music supervision is by Ian Eisendrath, and orchestrations are by August Eriksmoen. Casting is by Telsey + Company.
