How to Broadway-size Your Next Party or Event with PLAYBILLDER

This week's Spotlight is Molly Shunney and Oliver Sandreuter's October wedding. The globetrotters met on a nine month trip around the world and are now settled in New York City. Opening the next chapter of their adventurous love story, the couple celebrated their wedding in an intimate ceremony with family and friends. And PLAYBILLDER was there to help them on their special day.

Bride Molly Shunney shared with Playbill how the performing arts have helped them fall deeper in love with both their city and each other. NYC-based photographer Emma Melin provided their gorgeous photos.

Tell us about yourselves. How long have you been together, and how did you meet?
Molly Shunney: We have been together for 10 years! We met in 2015 on a gap year program called Winterline, a travel program for students between the ages of 18-23. Nine months of traveling around the world led us to each other.

When did you know that each other was “The One?”
We’d both agree it wasn’t a single moment, but a gradual collection of moments over the first year or two that grew into a knowing.

What were some of the most challenging moments in your wedding planning? What was the most rewarding moment of your wedding day?
We chose to plan a small wedding at a restaurant five minutes down the street from where we live. That choice, paired with a year and half long engagement, made planning pretty seamless. I'd say the part that took the most attention to detail was our seating chart—who knew it would be such a puzzle! We're most excited to see everyone on the day of and enjoy a delicious meal together.

What was the first Broadway show you attended as a couple?
Lion King was our first Broadway show together. It was incredible to see the level of talent and effort that went into the production. Since then, we've made it to over 20 shows in our three years in NY, and we're excited to keep checking more off the list! Some of our favorites include Appropriate, Covenant, and The Wanderers.

How have the performing arts played a role in your love story?
We came to NYC because I got a job that required us to relocate. We didn't have a particular curiosity for New York City, other than it was a new place for us to explore. Attending Broadway and Off-Broadway shows was one of the first (of many) reasons we fell in love with our new home. Oliver is admittedly the best at keeping tabs on upcoming shows and buying the tickets, and I benefit!

What drew you to PLAYBILLDER for your special event?
Since we were not planning to have a traditional rehearsal with immediate family members, we wanted to come up with a way to clearly share the "run of show" so that folks knew what to expect. I can't remember exactly how we landed on a Playbill, but when we realized it was as easy as using PLAYBILLDER, it was a no brainer.

How did each of you participate in the creation of your Playbill?
It was a shared effort across the board! I have taken lead on creating a timeline for the ceremony, filling out the "Program" and the three Acts. Both of us split the "cast" up evenly and wrote cheeky, fun descriptions. We thought this was a great way for our respective families to get to know everyone from "the other side."

How did PLAYBILLDER impact your wedding planning as a resource?
It was perfect for our run-of-show needs, especially since it acted as a tangible resource that our family could reference after we all walked through it together.

Would you recommend PLAYBILLDER to other couples planning for their big day?
Of course! It was such a fun and unique way to celebrate the occasion.

What major milestones are you looking forward to experiencing as a couple?
We love to host and we love to travel, so we see a lot more of that in our future. We're excited to see where our time in NYC leads. This is the longest we've lived in any city other than the towns where we grew up, and we don't see that changing any time soon!
