News Pippin Is Heading to the Silver Screen; James Ponsoldt Enlisted to Pen Adaptation James Ponsoldt, the writer-director of "The Spectacular Now" and "Smashed," will pen a film adaptation of the Roger O. Hirson-Stephen Schwartz musical Pippin, according to Deadline.com.

The project is under The Weinstein Company label — which is also producing the film adaptation of August: Osage County.

The Tony Award-winning 1972 pop musical features a score by Schwartz and a book by Hirson. The piece, noted for its iconic Bob Fosse choreography and style, follows young prince Pippin as he strives to find his place of belonging.
