With this premiere, FastHorse becomes the first Native American female playwright to have a play produced on Broadway. She refers to The Thanksgiving Play as a "comedy within a satire," using the form to skewer well-meaning liberals and the habit of performative wokeness. In the play, a group of teaching artists try to create a traditional Thanksgiving pageant for children while remaining culturally sensitive to Native Americans.
