The award-winning Grounded, in which Hathaway plays a top-gun fighter pilot, runs through May 17 at the Public's Anspacher Theater. It marks the star's first return to Off-Broadway and the Public Theater stage since 2009.
"Anne Hathaway and Julie Taymor are amazing, unique artists, and we are honored to produce them at The Public Theater," said artistic director Oskar Eustis in an earlier statement. "Grounded is a brilliant and important play, a meditation on the human and moral costs of our astonishing military technology. This promises to be an unforgettable theatrical event, and an important addition to our national conversation."
Brant's solo show won a Fringe First award at the Edingburgh Festival and had an extended run at London's Gate Theatre; it has toured internationally to critical acclaim. Grounded examines the life of a female fighter pilot in the Middle East whose unexpected pregnancy ends her career in the sky. Following the birth of her son, she finds it increasingly difficult to adjust to family life.
The production features scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind, sound design by Will Pickens, projection design by Peter Nigrini, and original music and soundscapes by Elliot Goldenthal.
Tickets can be purchased by calling (212) 967 7555, online at publictheater.org, or in person at The Public Theater, located at 425 Lafayette Street.
