Academy Award-winning Les Misérables star Anne Hathaway will produce and star in a movie version of Grounded, George Brant's solo play that she performed in spring 2015 at the Off-Broadway Public Theater in New York, according to Variety.

Brant will write the screen adaptation of his play about a top-gun fighter pilot who is reduced to guiding drones. The stage version was directed by Tony-winner Julie Taymor. No word on whether she will repeat for the film.

At the time, Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis said, “Grounded is a brilliant and important play, a meditation on the human and moral costs of our astonishing military technology. This promises to be an unforgettable theatrical event, and an important addition to our national conversation.”

Brant's solo show won a Fringe First award at the Edingburgh Festival and had an extended run at London's Gate Theatre; it has toured internationally to critical acclaim. Grounded examines the life of a female fighter pilot in the Middle East whose unexpected pregnancy ends her career in the sky. Following the birth of her son, she finds it increasingly difficult to adjust to family life.

Hathaway reportedly is producing Grounded with Suzan Bymel and Ben Forkner of Entertainment 360, plus Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, which is supplying the financing for the project.
