Cott, who became the Jack Kelly alternate last month, succeeded Jeremy Jordan, who received a Tony nomination for his performance. Jordan departed the production Sept. 4 to work full time on his leading role on the second season of NBC’s "Smash."
Cott made his Broadway debut in Newsies just weeks after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama. He appeared in several productions at Pittsburgh CLO including Miss Saigon, The Sound of Music and Jesus Christ Superstar and recently in the New York reading of Bare directed by Stafford Arima.
Newsies was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Book (Harvey Fierstein), Best Score (Jack Feldman and Alan Menken), Best Actor (Jeremy Jordan), Best Direction of a Musical (Jeff Calhoun) and Best Choreography (Christopher Gattelli). It won awards for Best Score and Best Choreography.
The Broadway company of Newsies features John Dossett as Joseph Pulitzer, Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, Capathia Jenkins as Medda Larkin, Ben Fankhauser as Davey, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie, and Lewis Grosso and Matthew Schechter alternating in the role of Les.
