Initial casting for Classic Stage Company's long-awaited revival of Alice Childress' Wine in the Wilderness is out. Performances of the LaChanze-directed production will begin March 6, 2025 at the Off-Broadway company ahead of a March 24 opening night. The limited run is scheduled to continue through April 13.
Tramell Tillman (Severance) and Olivia Washington (Slave Play) will lead the company, with further casting (by X Casting's Victor Vazquez) to be announced.
Set on a hot summer night with the 1964 Harlem riot in the background, Wine in the Wilderness follows artist Bill Jameson and the model he's found for the final piece of his triptych on Black womanhood. LaChanze is making her directorial debut with the production after starring in Childress's Trouble in Mind on Broadway.
The production was initially announced for spring 2024, but was later postponed.
Further creative team members are to be announced.
Tickets go on sale for CSC members November 26, with general sales beginning December 3. Visit ClassicStage.org.
