Great news for those outside of New York: North America will soon be able to see BOOP! The musical, which played a brief Broadway run last season, will embark on a 50-week national tour beginning at Rochester, New York's West Herr Auditorium Theatre in fall 2026. Additional cities, dates, and casting (by the TRC Company) are all to be announced.
The tour will resurrect the Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. Featuring a book by Bob Martin, music by David Foster, and lyrics by Susan Birkenhead, the musical brings the classic animated character to the stage, following her as she travels from her cartoon black-and-white world into modern-day New York City to learn a little bit more about herself and bring inspiration to jaded New Yorkers.
The show, which struggled to find an audience, may have been a casualty of this year's Tony Awards. The musical was nominated for Mitchell's choreography and for Jasmine Amy Rogers' leading performance in the title role, but ended the night empty-handed. The show was, however, the subject of a viral sensation thanks to Oh, Mary! understudy Hannah Solow, who made "We could see BOOP!" an unlikely catchphrase all 'round the internet.
