A new in-development musical looks to bring an original story to the song catalogue of British synth-pop band Erasure (comprising Vince Clarke and Andy Bell). Oh l'amour - The Erasure Musical will feature a book by Paul Lavoie and some of the duo's chart-topping songs, including "A Little Respect," "Always," "Chains of Love," and "Oh l'amour."
The story will follow a college student who finds himself in the chaos of 1987 San Francisco, beginning a journey of self-discovery and survival against the backdrop of the AIDS epidemic.
Tanninger Entertainment is producing the project, in partnership with Sony Music Publishing. Nick Demos is serving as creative consultant. A developmental workshop is planned for December at the University of Oklahoma. The creative team includes director-writer Hunter Bird (Masquerade) and music supervisior Dominic Fallacaro (& Juliet).
"I have been staggered by Paul Lavoie’s tenacity, force of will, and dogged determination, which is exactly what a production of this caliber requires, and I am thrilled that Tanninger Entertainment has had the foresight and courage to invest in his vision," says Bell in a statement. "This is not a jukebox musical. The way the story intertwines with such sensitivity and power is like experiencing a living tapestry of song, sound, and vision, and I cannot wait to see it on stage. I am thrilled to be working with Tanninger Entertainment on Oh l'amour - The Erasure Musical, and I'm very much looking forward to working with them to bring the show to the stage.”
