Suffs has cancelled its April 5 performance due to positive COVID tests within the company.
Earlier today, it was announced that writer and star Shaina Taub had tested positive and would not lead the work's opening night performance April 6. Check PublicTheater.org for the latest.
With a book, music, and lyrics by Taub, Suffs examines the suffragists and forgotten women who worked against divides and oppression as part of the fight for the right to vote. Set in the years leading up to the 19th Amendment, the show explores both victories and failures.
The world premiere production also stars Tony winner Nikki M. James, Tony nominees Phillipa Soo and Jenn Colella, Jenna Bainbridge, Ally Bonino, Tsilala Brock, Hannah Cruz, Nadia Dandashi, Aisha de Haas, Stephanie Everett, Amina Faye, Holly Gould, Cassondra James, Jaygee Macapugay, Grace McLean, Susan Oliveras, Mia Pak, Liz Pearce, Monica Tulia Ramirez, J. Riley Jr., Angela Travino, Ada Westfall, and Aurelia Williams.
Tony nominee Leigh Silverman directs the production. Serving on the creative team are music director and supervisor Andrea Grody, as well as choreographer and creative consultant Raja Feather Kelly, an Obie winner.
Also on the creative team are scenic designer Mimi Lien, costume designer Toni-Leslie James, lighting designer Natasha Katz, sound designer Sun Hee Kil, sound effects designer Daniel Kluger, hair, wigs, and makeup designer Matthew Armentrout, dramaturg Ayanna Thompson, production stage manager Melanie J. Lisby, and stage managers Amber Johnson and Jessie Moore. Orchestrations are by Mike Brun and prop management is by Corinne Gologursky.
