Opening NightPhotos: Ghosts, Goblins, and Evangelical Teens Hit the Red Carpet at Opening Night of Teeth
Lupita Nyong'o, Katrina Lenk, Jelani Alladin, and more were on hand to celebrate the October 31 opening night of Michael R. Jackson and Anna K. Jacobs' new musical.
Okay, Halloween is officially behind us—but the spooky, scary frights continue with photos from the Off-Broadway opening night of the new horror musical Teeth. The Michael R. Jackson-Anna K. Jacobs musical officially opened at New World Stages October 31, and a slew of stage stars were on hand to mark the bloody celebratory occasion. Take a look in the gallery below.
The cast is led by Alyse Alan Louis as Dawn, Andy Karl as Pastor and Dr. Godfrey, Will Connolly as Brad, Jason Gotay as Tobey, and Jared Loftin as Ryan, along with Courtney Bassett as Becky, Jenna Rose Husli as Trisha, Micaela Lamas as Rachael, Madison McBride as Keke, Sydney Parra as Fiona, and Wren Rivera as Stephanie. Standby Kyra Kennedy and understudies Julia Bain, Griffin Binnicker, Sean Doherty, and James D Sasser round out the company. Louis, Connolly, Gotay, Loftin, Bassett, Husli, and Rivera are reprising their performances from the musical's Off-Broadway debut at Playwrights Horizons. Casting is by Taylor Williams.
Adapted from the 2007 horror comedy film of the same name, Teeth features a book and music by Jacobs and book and lyrics by Jackson, the latter a Pulitzer and Tony winner for A Strange Loop. The story follows evangelical Christian teenager Dawn O'Keefe, whose body bites back when men try to violate her. Prior to the New World Stages bow, the musical got a world premiere run at Playwrights Horizons that began performances February 21 and officially opened March 19.
Set in the aftermath of an unimaginable tragedy—a child shooting another child at school—two mothers struggle with sainthood and demonization in the glare of the national spotlight.
Directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne, the production played
the Chichester Festival Theatre this past summer and will arrive in
London later this month.
