Awards NYC Mayor's Office Will Honor Theatre and Live Performance With Made in NY Awards

Winners, to be announced in the coming weeks, will be honored at a September ceremony at Gracie Mansion.

The New York City Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment will honor the best of NYC's theatre and live performance with Made in NY Awards, to be presented September 15 at Gracie Mansion. Four winners will be announced in the coming weeks.

The gathering will collect artists, administrators, and community leaders from the worlds of theatre, dance, and live performance on Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway, concert halls, community centers, and other NYC venues. The event aims to shine a spotlight on major Tony-winning productions and smaller experimental work alike.

"This Made in NY Awards ceremony, which is dedicated exclusively to the city’s Theatre and Live Performance Community, will gather together creatives across our vast ecosystem of talent—from the musicians in the orchestra pits of Broadway to the local dance theatres throughout the five boroughs—for a special night of celebration and thanks,” says MOME Commissioner Pat Swinney Kaufman in a statement. “This event is a moment for our administration to acknowledge a community that has continued to cultivate diversity and inclusion, and inspire audiences from around the world, while driving business and tourism year upon year.”

The event is a first-ever for the theatre and live performance sectors.

The Awards, created in 2006, presented the first in-person ceremony in a decade earlier this year, for NYC's film and TV industry. Past Made in NY Award winners have included Danielle Brooks, Joe Benincasa, Alan Cumming, Neil Patrick Harris, John Leguizamo, Audra McDonald, Patina Miller, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
