92nd Street Y has added cabaret classes led by Broadway favorites Nikki M. James (Suffs) and Faith Prince (BOOP! The Musical) to its upcoming 2026 offerings. The classes will offer developing performers a chance to hone their cabaret performance skills with Tony winners James and Prince, along with 92NY Cabaret Director Michael Kirk Lane and fellow cabaret artist Yashuhiko “Yaz” Fukuoka.
James’ performance workshop will be held at the Manhattan venue February 27-28, 2026. The first day will feature student performances and work with James and Lane, including a discussion of the art of cabaret and various approaches to it. The second day of the workshop will focus on deepening song interpretation, with participants asked to bring songs that carry personal meaning. The workshops are also available for non-performing auditors.
Those interested in singing should fill out a pre-screen form and pay a non-refundable application fee, both by February 2, 2026. Those selected will be contacted by February 11. Participating singers will be responsible for a $560 fee, with auditing access available for $120 ($175 after February 1). Those interested can apply for a scholarship here.
Prince will headline the group’s Summer Cabaret Conference June 22-26, with participants getting to join for discussions, coaching, and focused repertoire work. Prince will be joined by Lane and other distinguished guest artists, with the entire conference working to help performers develop a clear and individual voice. The application process for the conference will begin in January 2026. Those interested can sign up to receive a notification when that becomes available here. Scholarships will also be available for the conference.
