Academy Award-winning "Juno" screenwriter Diablo Cody revealed that composer Kitt and lyricist Yorkey were at work writing songs for her film treatment of Francine Pascal's series about the adventures of twin girls Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield. There are over 152 installments in the literary series.
"There's original songs being written for it right now, which is the most exciting development," Cody told MTV. "They're amazing. They're being written by these Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning songwriters from Broadway who are the best... They're amazing and I'm sorry, I could go on and on. But I'm very excited about 'Sweet Valley High.' It's going to blow people's minds."
Casting has not been set for the film.
Kitt and Yorkey previously told Playbill.com in 2010 that they were in the early stages of developing a film musical for Academy Award nominee Robert Downey, Jr. Kitt recently composed music for the national tour of Bring It On the Musical, while Yorkey is collaborating with Grammy winner Sting on the new musical The Last Ship.
