Next summer, the Sacramento Music Circus will present six musicals as part of its 68th season of theatre in the round. The slate will feature Singin’ in the Rain, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Disney’s Newsies, Gypsy, Mamma Mia!, and Little Shop of Horrors.
All shows will be staged at the Wells Fargo Pavilion in Sacramento, with casting and creative teams to be announced at a later date.
The season will kick off June 12 with Singin’ in the Rain, based on the classic film starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. Performances will continue through June 17.
The summer program will continue with the return of Music Circus favorite Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (June 26–July 1) and Newsies, the Disney musical based on the 1992 movie and inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899 (July 10–July 15).
Completing the season will be productions of Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim’s Gypsy (July 24–29); the long-running Broadway success Mamma Mia! (August 7–12); and cult musical theatre favorite Little Shop of Horrors (August 21–26).
Consisting of four distinct programs dedicated to supporting early career playwrights, the festival has formalized Second Stage Theater’s artistic pipeline.
The musical, a reinvention of Tim Burton’s cult classic film Edward Scissorhands, uses the pop music of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Alanis Morissette, and more.
