Entitled Legends of Broadway, the new series, which will be available for viewing each Wednesday, will kick off with Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, who will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the original cast recording of West Side Story. David Foil, a former Sony employee who conducted the interviews, told the Times, "We found that many people that we wanted to talk to were interested…In the interviews they talk about their careers, how they work, how certain shows came to be, how the records were made and other many things."
The interviews, which will be streamed free of charge, were conducted within the past year and a half. Upcoming interviews include those with Tony winners Angela Lansbury and Joel Grey.
Foil added, "The videos put faces with the names of composers, writers and stars. It’s an interesting and valuable part of what we consider an important part of our mission, which is to make available as much of the Masterworks catalog as possible, and to celebrate and explore the lore behind it."
